The one minute management model helps managers communicate effectively, increase productivity and make work better with these three simple, yet effective techniques.

One Minute Goals

motivate people, define what’s important, encourage ownership, and provide a way to measure performance.

  • Listen to employees and work with them to develop their goals.
  • Describe each goal on one page using only a paragraph or two.
  • Review goals to stay focused on what’s important, periodically checking progress.

One Minute Praisings

show employees that someone cares about their work, building confidence, and leading to stronger performance.

  • Recognise that the number one motivator of people is feedback on results.
  • Create opportunities to catch people doing something right.
  • Provide immediate, sincere praise, explaining what was done right and how you felt about it.

One Minute Re-Directs

get employees back on track when mistakes happen, learning and adapting to achieve their goals.

  • When a mistake occurs, review it together, factually, honestly and respectfully.
  • Share how you feel about the mistake and its possible impact on results.
  • Reinforce confidence, value and trust to end the conversation in a supportive way.

Use this methodology to guide others, encouraging them to take accountability for their performance, manage themselves and get great results!
