Meet the A.L.I.V.E. framework

Get creative and innovate with the A.L.I.V.E. framework.

We know the world feels like a bit of a mess at the moment – and things don’t seem to be getting much better. So, what’s the solution?

Embracing change.

Innovation is no longer optional, it’s essential. But innovation isn’t always easy. It can feel like a big, scary process and often an intangible word. We’re here to make it real.

Introducing the A.L.I.V.E. framework, to support the creation and cultivation of the biggest and best ideas (but also the smaller ideas that build momentum). The framework is something everyone in an organisation can use to embrace curiosity, think creatively, and innovate fruitfully. Our framework is a modular, flexible and scalable approach to supporting organisations, teams and individuals to explore opportunities and challenges, develop ideas and implement innovations. 

Our team have already put this framework into action, and it’s helping spot opportunities for innovation and allowing ideas to be born faster and more reliably.

Here’s the skinny.

ASK

A is for Ask

This is where we begin. Questions uncover hidden opportunities and challenge the status quo.
We encourage you to challenge existing assumptions, be curious and constantly seek new perspectives.

 Think about your processes or operations. Identify your issues, challenges and opportunities. Consider the impact they have, and why they haven’t been tackled or embraced yet.

 Why do you do it like that? What if you didn’t? Why can’t you? What’s the alternative? 

These questions help you to think bigger and challenge what you’re accustomed to. There might be a better future lying behind just a few questions…

 

L is for LearnLEARN

Insights and experiences are the bedrock of innovation – who knows your organisation better than the people who live it every day?

Now, it’s time to dig deeper. Really listen to the issues and opportunities that are being discussed. Take in all the data, the feedback, the knowledge, and start questioning what you find. Look for patterns, connections, and fresh perspectives. Define a clear, actionable problem statement that will guide your next steps in creative sessions and ideation.

By truly understanding the current landscape and gathering insights directly from the people on the front lines, you’re setting the stage for meaningful change.

 

I is for ImagineIMAGINE

This is where the fun begins. Imagination is the fuel for innovation. Generate ideas through creative sessions and mind mapping. Encourage wild ideas that are born from new inputs or stimuli. Suspend judgment in the early stages to help break through blockers, and make sure everyone gets involved as much as possible. 

Embrace divergent thinking to generate as many ideas as possible. There are no wrong answers. And note everything down! There are bound to be some hidden nuggets of gold you may miss on round one.

 

V is for VerifyVERIFY

Ideas are strengthened and improved by testing and validation. It’s time to evaluate, refine, experiment and underline your change.

 Are your ideas viable? This is where you validate concepts, solve practical problems, and ensure creative ideas will work effectively. You could consider using an Idea Scoring Matrix to prioritise ideas based on criteria like impact, feasibility, and alignment with goals.

Prototyping and user testing can give valuable insight to shape the approach.
It may be here that some of the biggest ideas grow legs, start feeling real and the excitement of what you’re planning becomes palpable.

 

EXECUTEE is for Execute

Creative ideas become innovations when they are put into action. You can take your planning and bring it into the real world. 

It’s crucial to develop a detailed implementation plan, including timelines, responsibilities, resource allocation and budgets. Then, you can measure success against key objectives and look to improve incrementally.

Tailor your approach to the scale and requirements of the project, solution or innovation that is being implemented.  It may not always be plain sailing. Maintain flexibility to adapt and evolve ideas as they are brought to life.

 

Does it work?

Yep! In fact, this show is already on the road. Innovation doesn’t happen overnight, or so we’re told. But we believe our framework makes it a clearer process that encourages you to make that first step and explore possibilities.

Think of this as breaking down an elephant-sized challenge into manageable, ant-sized tasks (more on this soon!). What once seemed impossible becomes a series of achievable steps, turning your big questions into something you can action.
